Welcome to my free tutorials! Art schools are wonderful but depending on where you live they can be cripplingly expensive. So I wanted to offer at least a little guidance and encouragement with free, easy to follow tutorials that start with the basics and gradually work up to more and more complex shapes, colors, styles, and behaviors of various topics. How to paint Stone

Stone's key feature is the cracks and grooves that tend to form in it. Stone is made up of compact dirt, sediment, sand, and other hard minerals so it tends to erode if wet and crack if dry. Use these to help illustrate the material.

The key feature of wood is the grain, those lines that go up and down and behave like fingerprints on the surface. When painting wood it's a good idea to always consider which way the grain of the wood is flowing.

How to paint Fire

This is my tutorial series where I cover realistic AND stylized fire from the basic colors and textures up and into more complex shapes, styles, and colors. The key thing to remember about fire is that it's a gas BUT when painting or animating it in a more stylized way it can be best to think of it like a liquid that flows with the air. Fire can be several different colors so the behavior is really the key thing to focus on. If you're making more realistic fire, the bigger it gets it tends to billow and roll into the smoke in very round puffs.
